BSC Glasgow 2 Bonnyrigg Rose 3
Report by John Gilmour
Another magical night from Bonnyrigg Rose as they gained sweet revenge over the only side to beat them at home this season. Once again as so often this season the team's character shone through in spades. Something Boss Robbie Horn has spoken off many times already but was delighted to highlight again, “I may be repeating myself but the team spirit of these boys is incredible. They just never know when they are beaten. The game had twists and turns and late on it looked like a draw was on the cards but the lads dug deep and scored a great winner to take the points against a very good side.”
Once again the game kicked off in heavy rain with a healthy travelling support willing the Rose on against a side pushing hard on their heels in 3rd spot in the table. BSC pressed hard early on without creating any problems for a tight Rose defence. Bonnyrigg settled and both Keiran McGachie and George Hunter having chances to grab the opener. As it was both sides were still finding each other out as the referee blew for half time.
Into the second half and Bonnyrigg pushed hard and were rewarded in the 53rd minute with a penalty after Hunter was sent crashing inside the box. Up stepped Lee Currie and made no mistake in converting the spot kick. Now in control the Rose pressed hard for the killer goal. They had to wait a while before it arrived. Sub Jamie Docherty had a great opportunity to score but his effort drifted wide. From the resultant bye kick George Hunter pounced on a loose pass before running in on goal and brilliantly sliding the ball into the bottom far corner for a stunning 2nd.
Bonnyrigg were now cruising but BSC had other ideas. They won a free kick some 20 yards out in the 83rd minute. Declan Hughes ‘s effort was covered by keeper Mark Weir until someone stuck out a leg as diverted it into the net. The game was on now and only a couple of minutes later they were level. A corner from the right was powerfully headed home by full back Jamie McCormack. Level now and BSC had their tails up looking for a winner. However in the dying minutes Lee Currie swung over a corner from the left and Ewan Moyes rose to head the ball into the net for another dramatic winner from the central defender. A crazy ending to a terrific game of football as Bonnyrigg ran out worthy winners in the battle of Alloa.
Manager's Interview.
“This was a massive 3 points for us and a hard fought win against a very good side. We were keen to avenge the result at New Dundas Park and show them that we are a much better team than we were that day. There will be twists and turns before the end of the season but we’ll be in there battling for everything. Again the spirit and character of the squad showed through tonight. When George scored the 2nd I thought we would see the game out as I thought we looked comfortable but you have to give them credit for getting back in it. Big Moyesie has come up with another massive goal and he epitomises what this team is all about. We have a tough schedule ahead of over the next few weeks but I’m confident we can handle it.”
