Bonnyrigg Rose 1 BSC Glasgow 3
Report by John Gilmour
A disappointing afternoon for League leaders Bonnyrigg as they fail to add to their terrific start to their campaign, as visitors BSC, who finished last season as runners up to East Kilbride, proved too strong for the Rose who struggled from the kick off.
Boss Robbie Horn said afterwards, “We weren’t at the races today. We gave them too much time on the ball while they pushed us hard right from the start. Our lads didn’t have the time on the ball they liked and were under pressure constantly. That’s the way these teams play and we’ll just have to adjust our game accordingly.”
From the kick off BSC took the game to the Rose pushing the home defence onto the back foot. Players like Lee Currie and Johnny Stewart found themselves under pressure having to work extra hard to find a decent pass. The pressure finally told in the 15th minute when a long ball over the top was missed allowing McNab to slam the ball past Mark Weir in goal for the opener. Only 10 minutes later and another mistake at the back, when 3 players went for the same ball and missed, leaving Collins an empty net to take advantage of. BSC were proving to be a good team while Bonnyrigg struggled to get a grip on the game as the half time whistle drew near.
The home support were hoping for better things in the 2nd half but within minutes their worst fears happened. Bonnyrigg were pushing forward for a goal to bring them back into the game. In a melee in the BSC box the Rose striker’s failed to get an effort on goal. BSC broke quickly upfield and when left winger Collins received the ball he cut inside before unleashing a terrific drive into the top corner for their 3rd of the afternoon. Now 3 down, Bonnyrigg had to respond and they did. George Hunter slammed the ball against the post before Lewis Turner was in the right spot to finish a great move down the left wing in the 57th minute. Alas that was the only goal they did manage although they did create enough good chances to at least earn a point but stout defending and poor finishing meant the visitors went home with all 3 points.
The Managers interview.
A poor result for Bonnyrigg but boss Robbie Horn was quick to bring reality back into the equation, “BSC are a very good side, a side who finished 2nd to East Kilbride last year so they are no mugs. They deserved their win today and we only have ourselves to blame. We weren’t at “It” today when we gave them too much time on the ball. We aren’t getting carried away with being top of the table and neither will be getting carried away with this defeat and we move on.”
