Bonnyrigg Rose 3 Caledonian Braves 0
By John Gilmour
Another outstanding result from the League leaders thanks to a double from young Hearts loanee Daniel Baur who is fast becoming a huge favourite with the Rose support.
“It was great to get on the score sheet today and help us win the game. I’m absolutely enjoying my time her both on and off the park. We’re a great bunch of lads in the dressing room and I feel I’m fitting in well. For the 1st goal the ball may have been going straight in but I managed to nick it over the line so I’m claiming the goal. The 2nd I managed to hit the ball sweetly and it landed in the net while Deano’s 3rd was a terrific strike. I’m supposed to be finishing my loan spell in January but if the gaffer and Hearts can work something out I’d be delighted to stay here a bit longer.” was Daniel’s reaction after the game.
Bonnyrigg started the game very hesitant as if they were working out how to play the team who were called Edusport Academy last season. The visitors played some good attractive football from the back but lacked penetration. They paid the penalty for that in the 8th minute. A Lee Currie corner from the left looked to be curling in at the back post but Baur headed the ball in at the far post to make sure. The Rose continued to press and was rewarded with a penalty in the 40th minute after George Hunter was sent flying; up stepped Currie but his effort came back off the post and out to safety.
Into the 2nd half kicking against a strong wind and Bonnyrigg took the game to the visitors. They didn’t have long to wait before adding to their tally. Again it was Baur on the score sheet with a low drive from his trusted size 13 left foot that doubled their lead. Again and again they forced the Braves onto the back foot with Hunter hitting the woodwork as they searched for the 3rd goal. Then with 10 minutes remaining it duly arrived with yet another superb piece of football. Dean Brett cut inside laying the ball off for Keiran McGachie who pulled it back for the full back to side foot it into the net at the near post, a terrific goal and richly deserved.
Another big game won with style and one which keeps the pressure on the chasing teams around them. No goals conceded and 3 in the bag for a team on top of their game a fact not lost on manager Robbie Horn.
The Manager’s Interview.
“We didn’t start the game really well but got the goal and that settled us. At the break, again as last Friday, I had a bit of a go at them and again, as last Friday, they stepped up a gear and some of the football they lads played in the 2nd half was great to watch. Young Daniel(Baur) has been great since he came here. He is a character in the dressing room and everyone is delighted with the way he’s fitted straight in. He bagged a double today and hopefully he’ll continue to do that. I said at the start of the season we’re the underdogs because there are big teams who fancy themselves for the title this year so to still be at the top of the table is a huge plus for us and hopefully we can keep our great supporters happy. Today though, we had a clean sheet, 3 goals and goals coming from different areas of the pitch; so I’m very happy with today’s work.”
