Two second half strikes from Highland League side Clachnacuddin were enough to prematurely end Bonnyrigg Rose’s Scottish Cup adventure, losing 2-0 at Grant Street Park.
Jonny Stewart made just one change to the side that beat Motherwell B last Saturday. Taylor Hogarth replaced Laurie Devine in the starting lineup.
Clear-cut chances were few and far between in the first half. Clachnacuddin’s best play came through winger Mikey Mackenzie and he came close to scoring with a curled effort from range.
Kerr Young was denied by the woodwork on the brink of half-time, crashing a header off the bar following Lee Currie’s cross.
Rose continued to probe in and around the Clachnacuddin penalty area in the second half but were unable to find a moment of quality, and the hosts punished their lack of ruthlessness.
With a little under fifteen minutes remaining, Andy Macrae picked out Jordan Macrae in the box who lashed beyond Marc Anderson for a 1-0 lead.
Clachnacuddin found their second after 78 minutes through Shae Keogh. The forward pounced on a loose ball after a great save by Anderson and put the tie beyond Rose.
Attention now turns to the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup next Saturday, where Rose travel to face Gala Fairydean Rovers.
