Airdrie started out on the front foot and were able to seize the majority of possession, forcing Rose into ambitious long balls that were mopped up by the visitors’ defence.

Their breakthrough came after twenty minutes - and it was deserved on merit. After Aidan Bridge struck the post from close range and Gavin Gallagher had an effort blocked, Divine Iserhienrhien was on hand to fire home at the third time of asking.

Their lead was not a long one, however, and Rose equalised in spectacular fashion.

Laurie Devine was brought down just over 25 yards from goal. Lee Currie stepped up and unleashed a piledriver into the top corner, clipping the underside of the bar and just about crossing the line for 1–1 after 25 minutes.

Just before the half-hour mark, Airdrie retook the lead. Lewis Gibson found space in the penalty area before squaring for Iserhienrhien for his and the Diamond’s second.

Airdrie added their third on thirty-three minutes through a clinical counter attack. After pouncing on a loose ball in midfield, Airdrieonians burst forward in numbers and Gavin Gallagher beat Marc Anderson one-on-one, with Iserhienrhien adding an assist to his tally.

Their fourth came through fortunate means as Neil Martyniuk slid in to block a low cross, only for the ball to sneak into the bottom corner for 1-4 after 35 minutes.

Airdrieonians started the second half much the same as they did the first - their physicality and energy played a huge part in keeping momentum on their side.

Gavin Gallagher grabbed his second after 67 minutes with a clinical finish from close range.

Minutes later, Alassan Jones had Rose’ best opportunity of the second half as he found space just inside the penalty area but fired into the gloves of Ruairidh Adams in net.

Tom Pickford added a sixth with just two minutes on the clock, slotting into the bottom corner from inside the box.

Rose will turn their attention to Saturday’s clash with Motherwell B in the KDM Evolution Trophy.
