Bonnyrigg Rose produced a dominant performance in the South Challenge Cup, hitting East Kilbride Thistle for six on the road to comfortably book their place in the next round.
The hosts made a bright start, taking the lead inside two minutes when a deflection in the box fell kindly for a Thistle player to slot home from close range. However, Rose wasted little time in responding.
Just eight minutes later, Callum Hogg surged down the left and whipped in a superb cross to find Rudi Bryce, who volleyed emphatically into the top corner to level the scores. The equaliser settled the visitors, and they began to dictate play with confidence.
On 29 minutes, Dean Hoskins put Rose in front with a thunderous long-range strike that flew into the bottom left corner. The momentum stayed firmly with Bonnyrigg, and soon after, they were awarded a penalty. As so often, Martyniuk made no mistake, drilling his spot-kick low to the keeper’s right to make it 3–1 heading into half-time.
The second half saw more of the same as Rose continued to dominate possession and chances. Midway through the half, Kallum Higginbotham coolly converted another penalty to extend the lead before Thistle were reduced to ten men for a last-man foul in the 76th minute.
Bonnyrigg took full advantage of the extra space, with Danny Dobbie marking his debut in style — scoring from the centre of the box to make it five. Just two minutes later, Cammie Ross added a sixth, racing in behind the defence and finishing clinically to cap off a ruthless attacking display.
The referee’s whistle confirmed an emphatic 6–1 victory for the Rose, who march on in the South Challenge Cup.
