The Rose edged past Broxburn Athletic to secure their place in the second round of the Scottish Cup, winning 2-1 in their final game at temporary home Ferguson Park.
The visitors enjoyed a positive start to the first half and very nearly got their reward through Jamie Docherty who was denied by the woodwork.
The resulting Bonnyrigg counter-attack won a corner, which Neil Martyniuk nodded home at the back post to ease nerves before the interval.
The second half began with both struggling to retain possession. Frustration was growing on the pitch and Lee Currie was shown red for dissent with twenty minutes to play.
Despite the reduced numbers, the Rose battled tremendously and got their reward in style.
Callum Connolly’s delightful ball down the line found Laurie Devine who cut back for Cameron Ross to turn home for a 2-0 lead.
Broxburn weren’t going down without a fight and scored just minutes after through an Errol Douglas header, but yet more stalwart Bonnyrigg defending saw the game out and put the Rose in the hat.
Bonnyrigg Rose are on the road twice next week, facing Bo’ness United and Heart of Midlothian B on Tuesday and Friday night respectively.
