Second-half goals from Mackenzie Scott and Lee Currie saw Bonnyrigg Rose overturn a 2-1 deficit, beating Caledonian Braves 3-2 at New Dundas Park.
Jonny Stewart made two changes from the team that faced Berwick Rangers as Callum Connolly and Max Dowling replaced Corrie Fellows and Daniel Dobbie.
Braves started on the front foot and came close to taking the lead after twenty-two minutes through means of a free kick. Connor McLaren struck low and hard towards the bottom corner but Ross Connelly got down low to tip the ball behind.
It would only take five more minutes of Braves pressure for them to take the lead. Zac Butterworth brilliantly drove to the byline and slipped the ball across the face of goal for Connor McLaren to squeeze through Ross Connelly.
Rose responded shortly after the half hour mark.
Pouncing on a loose ball on the halfway line, Max Dowling was able to force a ball in behind for Cammie Ross to chase. The talismanic striker turned before firing a left foot effort across goal and into the bottom corner for 1-1.
Butterworth proved to be a problem once more for Rose. After yet more beat work up the right wing, his deep cross was met by Ross McNeil who fired a looping header into the back of the net.
Rose went in at half time trailing 2-1 and lost Neil Martyniuk to an injury, which saw Corrie Fellows enter the fray for the start of the second period.
It would take twenty-five minutes of football for the second half to produce a goal, and it came by means of an inspired substitution.
Billy King and Mackenzie Scott combined for Rose’ second just five minutes after coming on. The latter chested down a Cammie Ross cross before playing a one-two in the box with King. Scott then fired his effort under Bernard White to level the game again.
With Linlithgow Rose and Clydebank both winning, Bonnyrigg Rose needed a big moment to keep the pressure on.
Lee Currie would provide that and then some after seventy-seven minutes.
Max Dowling teed up the midfield man from just outside the penalty box, who whipped a stellar first-time strike into the top corner. There was nothing that a rooted White could do, and Rose led for the first time of the afternoon.
After a frantic last ten minutes, Braves spurned a glorious opportunity to equalise in injury time. Substitute Reg McLaren lifted a clever ball in behind for McNeil, who rattled the crossbar from a one-on-one position.
A 3-2 win keeps Rose second in the table, two points behind leaders Clydebank who beat Broxburn Athletic 4-0.
Bonnyrigg Rose will face Broxburn Athletic next weekend when they travel to Albyn Park.
