Cammie Ross scored his first goals since late January as Bonnyrigg Rose beat Gala Fairydean Rovers 4-2 in an end-to-end encounter at New Dundas Park.
Jonny Stewart named an unchanged starting eleven as he sought to build on last week’s victory at Stirling University.
Rose started the game with plenty of momentum and attacking intent although their bright start was put on hold through ugly means.
Influential midfielder Billy King was forced off after 24 minutes with a nasty head injury after being caught with a high boot.
Rose resumed play at the same tempo and opened the scoring just five minutes later.
Josh Laing - brought on for King - lifted a first time ball over the top of the Gala defence for Kallum Higginbotham to chase. His cross found Cammie Ross unmarked in the middle of the box, and the striker struck the ball past Shea Dowie at the near post.
Rose doubled up in no time after getting in behind Gala again.
Neil Martyniuk slid a disguised ball in behind for Alassan Jones to chase. With only the keeper to beat the in-form midfielder could have taken the glory but squared for Higginbotham, who walked the ball into an empty net for a 2-0 lead at half time.
Rose could - and arguably should - have had three shortly after the restart.
A swift counter-attack let Higginbotham find Dobbie, who charged from halfway with the ball and eventually found himself one on one. Dowie blocked his first effort and his follow-up attempt hit the side netting from a tight angle.
Just after the hour mark, Gala won a penalty after substitute Joshua Mulgrew drew a foul in the penalty area. Captain Daniel Galbraith stepped up and coolly rolled past Ross Connelly to half the deficit.
Neil Martyniuk was forced off with what was just about a carbon copy of Billy King’s injury after a stray boot caught his head.
The game became something of a basketball game in the last ten minutes.
Cammie Ross won a penalty for Rose, running in behind and being fouled by Dowie after taking the ball around the Gala goalie. He then scored his 26th goal of the season from the spot, rolling his penalty into the bottom-left corner.
Within 30 seconds of the restart, Gala hit back for 3-2. Jamie Semple teed up Daniel Galbraith who arrowed a brilliant first-time strike into the top left corner from 25 yards out.
Gala may have fought back to cut the deficit again, but Rose immediately pegged them back with a rocket of their own.
Max Dowling chased a loose ball in the penalty area and laid the ball off for his fellow substitute Corrie Fellows.
The full-back took one touch to set himself before unleashing a powerful effort towards the near post which crashed off the underside of the bar and in.
Bonnyrigg Rose sealed a 4-2 win, and Jonny Stewart’s side have now come out on top in 15 of their last 16 league games. They will return to Lowland League action next Saturday, travelling to face Clydebank in a top of the table clash.
