A first-half Alassan Jones strike and a Cammie Ross gift gunned Rose's season ambitions following a fiery Lowland League clash at Prestonfield on Saturday.
Bonnyrigg flew out of the traps in the opening stages of the game, and they came close after Josh Laing’s strike from Jones’s slice trickled just wide of the post. Moments later, Cammie Ross forced Binnie into a superb save after the striker’s free-header was sent low and into the keeper’s legs.
Linlithgow responded well to Rose’s initial siege, and they let Bonnyrigg’s defence off the hook as Thomson beat Laing to clip in a deep delivery, only for Calum Rae to head inexplicably over.
It took 28 minutes for the opener, but it was Bonnyrigg who forged ahead first. A loose ball out by Linlithgow was intercepted by Max Dowling in the midfield, allowing Higginbotham to slide in Alassan Jones, who beat Skinner, and hit a shot beyond Binnie and across goal to put Rose ahead.
Linlithgow held their own, and 8 minutes after Jones’s opener they levelled after a free-kick was teed up for James Berry to hit under the Rose wall and in.
The second half was well contested, and shortly after Thomson hit the post for Linlithgow, Billy King came close to a second after Ross’s cutback was struck by the winger just beyond the left-hand post. Lee Currie’s flashed effort followed, however it was hit just above the crossbar.
Rose had threatened for the bulk of the second half, and in the 77th minute they scored a deserved winner after King set Higginbotham away to clip a ball into the middle. Binnie looked to have secured the cross however it slipped out of his hands and dropped kindly for Cammie Ross to tap home for 2-1.
The game ebbed out from there, and shortly after, the final whistle went to delight the super support of the Rose travelling faithful. Following a positive result in Bellshill, Rose now sit just one point behind league-leaders Clydebank with Cumbernauld Colts their next opponents on Tuesday night.
