Second-half strikes from Billy King and Neil Martyniuk saw Bonnyrigg inch closer to the top after a tenth straight win across all competitions, following Saturday’s Lowland League action.

Rose laid their statement of intent down from the get-go, and they nearly took the lead just three minutes in after Alassan Jones’ dipping free kick beat McConnell, but agonisingly crashed against the crossbar.

Ross Connelly was on fine form in the early stages, saving two quick-fire low strikes from Robertson and Docherty to keep the scores level.

Jay McGarva really should have put Bonnyrigg ahead 15 minutes in, however his first time effort from Dobbie’s cross trickled just wide of the far post. Laing’s downward header was cleared brilliantly off the line shortly after.

A slow start to the second half was reflected with a lack of converting chances. Jones and King had semi-chances to give Rose the lead, but their efforts were saved comfortably by McConnell.

Inevitably though, Bonnyrigg would take the lead through a completely unorthodox goal 73 minutes in. Billy King won the ball back among a crowd of Broxburn players, and despite being forced out wide, he looped an apparent cross over everybody, including the keeper, to nestle into the far corner for 1-0.

Rose didn’t relent in their press, and seven minutes later they had a penalty after Cammie Ross stole in front of Gormley- bringing the forward down inside of the box. Captain Neil Martyniuk stepped up and sent McConnell the wrong way to double the lead and seal the points.

Rose made their only change of the game 5 minutes later, bringing Rudi Bryce on for Kallum Higginbotham.

The full time whistle went shortly after to once more elate the crowd at New Dundas Park, with Rose rising to second just four points behind league-leaders Clydebank. Bonnyrigg now look ahead to extending their winning record in a huge tie, facing Spartans at NDP in Scottish Cup R3 action.
