A Kallum Higginbotham brace and a Cammie Ross finish saw Rose pick up a seventh straight win as they triumphed over a fickle Caledonian Braves side 3-1 in Saturday’s Lowland League action.
It was the Braves who threatened Bonnyrigg most in the opening stages. Clocherty saw a chance denied well by Connelly, and Martyniuk stood his ground to stop Walker in his tracks.
It took about 20 minutes for Rose to start to threaten the Braves, and the alarm bells rang after Kallum Higginbotham chested a shot down, only to see his shot roll just wide of the right-hand post.
Soon enough, the Rose siege would pay off in a wonderfully crafted move 34 minutes in. Alassan Jones took on Brown and cut a ball back to Cammie Ross. His shot was blocked by McDowall, only to fall to Higginbotham who leathered high and home for 1-0.
Rose were arguably more deserving of the lead so far, but they compounded this just five minutes later with a quick-fire double. Josh Laing did well to wriggle out from Stewart, cutting a ball back to Higginbotham whose shot was saved by White, falling kindly to Cammie Ross who tapped home easily for 2-0.
Higgy’s afternoon got better-and-better and just three minutes into the second half, he had another. Dobbie played a ball out to Billy King, who cut a ball back beating all in Blue for Higginbotham to hit first time and into the roof of the net to make it 3.
The Braves pulled one back in the 54th minute through a close-range Lennon Walker strike that beat Connelly.
The home side thought they had another shortly after, however there was deemed to be an offside during Murray’s delivery.
The game seemed to die down from here, with either side lacking conviction to get a shot off. Rudi Bryce and Max Dowling came on to replace Kallum Higginbotham and an injured Alassan Jones.
Martyniuk performed an excellent defensive double by clearing a shot off the line twice, however the full-time whistle went to secure another three points for Jonny Stewart’s Rosey Posey and a seventh win in a row in all competitions.
Bonnyrigg now prepare for a tricky home tie against Bo’ness United in the Lowland League next Saturday.
