Cammie Ross stole the headlines with a stellar hat-trick to send Bonnyrigg Rose up to fourth, beating Bo’ness United 4-0 at New Dundas park.
Unchanged from last week, Jonny Stewart’s side were immediately on the front foot and won a flurry of corners throughout the opening twenty minutes.
After twenty-one minutes, one of said corners proved golden. A training ground routine saw Billy King drill a low ball across the penalty box. Ross ran across the back of the Bo’ness defence to thump a brilliant first time finish past Matthew Wallace.
With just under ten minutes to play, the Rose doubled their advantage through the same combo.
Billy King found space down the right hand side and cut back for Ross who coolly dispatched into the top right corner from close range.
For what was a tight game on paper with just one point separating the sides before the match, Bonnyrigg Rose found themselves in control.
Jay McGarva had a glorious opportunity to further extend the lead before half time after Wallace parried Danny Dobbie’s long range effort straight to the left-back. Unfortunately his finish was straight at the goalkeeper.
He wasn’t made to rue that missed opportunity, and Bonnyrigg grabbed a third shortly after the interval. Billy King delivered yet another teasing ball into the penalty area which allowed for Ross to nod into the bottom corner, sealing a brilliant hat-trick.
Kallum Higginbotham rubbed more salt into fresh Bo’ness wounds with 56 minutes played.
The midfield man was released down the left wing and cut inside before curling a stunning effort into the far corner from outside the penalty box.
The Rose were hungry for more. Cammie Ross arguably could had four or five after he lashed over from yet another Billy King cutback and fired just wide after slipping in behind the Bo’ness defence.
Substitute Rudi Bryce had a similar opportunity after bursting into the left hand side of the box and dragging his effort narrowly wide of the post.
With the final score of 4-0 - and justifiably so - Bonnyrigg Rose move up to fourth in the table, four points clear of today’s opponents and ahead of Tranent on goal difference.
It’s a double header next week for Jonny Stewart’s team, travelling away to face Gala Fairydean Rovers in cup action before another top of the table clash against Broxburn Athletic at New Dundas Park.
