Bonnyrigg Rose saw off Civil Service Strollers for a sixth straight win in all competitions, winning 2-0 in their second game back at an overcast New Dundas Park.
Jonny Stewart made two changes from the side that overcame Cumbernauld Colts in the Scottish Cup, with Kallum Higginbotham and Lee Currie replacing Laurie Devine and Max Dowling.
Strollers made an excellent start to the first half and arguably should have taken the lead early on through former Rose forward Alieu Faye. The big forward arrived unmarked to meet a cross from the left flank but headed well over.
Ross Connelly was soon called upon to deny Alfie Smith from distance, producing a fine save to tip the ball away from the top corner.
Not long after the heavens opened, so too did the scoring.
A Kieran Somerville cross caused problems for Strollers, and although Cammie Ross’ initial effort was blocked, the rebound fell to Alassan Jones whose deflected effort flew past Adam Meek.
The Rose found themselves going in at half time 1-0 up, and looked to have doubled their advantage within minutes of the second half starting.
Jay McGarva opened his Rose account last weekend and thought he’d doubled his tally after slipping in behind and slotting home - only to be denied by the offside flag.
Another Rose goal was chopped off shortly after when Billy King’s corner went all the way in without a touch but an interference with Meek saw play halted.
King wasn’t to be denied his third goal in as many games and doubled the advantage with twenty minutes to play. A well-weighted ball from Higginbotham found the marauding midfielder in behind, who made no mistake with his finish.
It proved enough for all three points, sending Bonnyrigg Rose up to fifth in the table.
It’s a quick turnaround for the Rosey Posey, who are back at New Dundas Park on Tuesday hosting Bo’ness United in the Lowland League.
