An own goal and a Billy King brace crowned Rose winners in their second half blitz against a stubborn Clydebank side in Saturday afternoon’s Lowland League action.
The tie promised fireworks with so much riding on it for either team, but the first half was a cagey affair. King showed early signs of quality on the right flank for Rose, however the end product lacked the quality needed for a goal across the front line.
Clydebank were more deserving of a goal in the first half. Martyniuk made a heroic goal line clearance after a goal-bound shot had beaten Connelly, but shortly after Gallagher put his side ahead with the goal mouth empty 39 minutes in.
The first half wasn’t good enough for Rose, but the intent was shown early on in the second with the pressure building. Soon enough, minutes after Little skied a golden chance for Clydebank, Rose levelled in the 60th minute when Billy King picked up the ball in the box, turned his man and beat two defenders to trickle into the net for 1-1
Bonnyrigg were now the better side in the tie, and it took just five more minutes for Billy King to get his brace when McGarva’s shot was saved by Stott, however his poor parry fell straight to King who rifled into the roof of the net and sent New Dundas alight.
Clydebank seemingly got away with being reduced down to ten when Dobbie was brought down seemingly through one-on-one, however the referee decided a yellow card was enough of a punishment.
Rose had shunned Clydebank all throughout the second half, and in the first minute of injury time the game was sealed when Laurie Devine ran down the right wing looking to cut a ball back to Alassan Jones for a tap in, however Syme mistimed his clearance and it went in off the away team’s defender.
The full time whistle was imminent, but the away team made it a difficult few minutes when McLaughlin scored from the penalty spot 94 minutes in.
It did prove to be a happy homecoming for the Rosey Posey in the end, as the referee blew for full time at 3-2 to keep all the points at New Dundas, and giving the returning fans something to smile about. Rose now prepare for their huge Scottish Cup Round 2 tie against Cumbernauld Colts on Saturday next week.
