Bonnyrigg Rose were on the road again as they travelled West to face Albion Rovers at the Reigart Stadium in Coatbridge.
Jonny Stewart named almost a fully changed side from last Saturday’s match against East Kilbride Thistle, with only Neil Martyniuk, Kieran Somerville and Max Dowling starting both games.
The first proper chance of the match came in the opening 8 minutes, when Alassan Jones found himself with the ball at his feet. He was under some severe pressure from the Rovers centre-half and with his back to goal, he attempted to spin and have a shot however it was high and wide of the mark.
Cammie Ross opened the scoring in the 11th minute where a scramble in the box found itself at Cammie’s feet and, you know what usually happens next, he does what he does best and slots it past Gaffney, into the back of the Rovers net!
Rovers had a couple big chances in a short space of time, Callum Connolly cleared a free kick and Ross Connelly got down low to his left hand side to block a shot from Rovers’ striker - Tony Garth.
Cammie had another great chance, this time down the right hand side where a cross turned shot rattled off the post and back out into open play. Alassan Jones attempted to follow it in, however the Rovers defence blocked it then cleared it back into the middle of the park.
Cammie continued the second half how he ended the first half, with his shot just flying past the post in the 50th minute.
The first substitution of the match occurred when new loanee Danny Dobbie made his League Debut for the Rose, replacing Max Dowling in the 62nd minute.
Only 3 minutes after Danny came on, Cammie found himself bearing down on goal, with only the keeper in front of him. Gaffney attempts to spread himself out but to no avail as Cammie, cool as you like, slots it under the GK and into the back of the net - sending Rose fans in the terrace into raucous celebrations, and joining in himself, celebrating with a young Rose fan behind the goal!
The Rose defence was then called into action when young attacking midfielder Lancelot Pollard used his pace to drive at Somerville. Somerville attempted to halt him in his tracks but he used his pace to skip past the full back and drive towards goal. However, the ever reliable Callum Connolly was there to clear the ball.
Rose got a third goal through Alassan Jones in the 73rd minute. A defensive error between the two Rovers center-halfs led to Alassan finding the ball at his feet, he rounded the keeper and slotted it home to seal the three points in Coatbridge!
Rose made 2 double substitutions before the end of the 90. The first came in the 75th minute where Devine and Currie were replaced by Speirs and Higginbotham. The second set of substitutions came in the 80th minute when Kieran Somerville and goalscorer Alassan Jones were replaced by Rudi Bryce and Josh Laing.
Bonnyrigg Rose are in league action this Saturday when we make our long awaited return to New Dundas Park after 5 months away. We face Lowland League toppers Clydebank. We hope to see you all there!
