Cammie Ross scored his fourteenth goal of the season to grab all three points for Bonnyrigg against Hearts B at Vanloq Community Stadium.
Storm Amy didn’t prove to be enough of a hindrance to call the game off despite initial concerns.
For the first ever meeting between the two sides, conditions could have arguably been better. The weather certainly made an impact on play, with high balls spinning wildly mid-flight and passes zipping across the wet pitch.
Despite adverse conditions the Rose battled onward and got their reward in the closing stages of the first half. Just minutes after initially trying his luck from range, Alassan Jones blasted home from 25 yards out, leaving Lyndon Tas with little chance.
It could be argued, much like every other kick of a ball, that the wind caught it on its way.
Hearts B came out for the second half revitalised and swiftly levelled through Connor Dow, who raced onto a long ball by Henry Lister before finishing well.
It was a short-lived equaliser however, and Ross swiftly restored the advantage.
An Alassan Jones volley on the hour mark forced a fine save from Tas - only for the rebound to fall to the in-form striker. A right footed effort settled into the far corner and the travelling Rose support, also braving the elements, could breath a sigh of relief.
The game descended into madness as the weather worsened in the closing stages. Sliced clearances, sloppy touches and dead balls refusing to stay still became commonplace for either side, but ultimately didn’t deter a win on the road for the Rose.
Bonnyrigg Rose are back in action on Saturday when they travel to take on East Kilbride Thistle in the South Challenge Cup.
