An early Laurie Devine goal was not enough to earn Bonnyrigg all three points following a well-contested draw against Bo’ness United in Tuesday Night’s Lowland League action.
Bo’ness held the bulk of the opening pressure, but it was Rose who hit the front foot in the tie just 12 minutes in, when Laurie Devine cut inside on his right foot to flash a shot beyond Wallace at the near post, and in for 1-0.
Despite holding an early lead, Rose began to fall behind in the tie and found themselves under a lot of pressure. Martyniuk and Somerville were kept busy, with Ross Connelly being forced to be alert.
Rose grew into the half again and came close on multiple occasions, notably when Alassan Jones’s shot was deflected, forcing Wallace into a strong save for the home side.
Bo’ness got a goal for their efforts in the 39th minute, when Kieran Mitchell was deemed onside from a run, rounding Connelly and striking into an empty net.
The beginning to the second half was a slower affair for both teams, but Masson of Bo’ness forced the Rose defence to be aware and commit men back. Yellow cards seemed in abundance throughout the halves, with this referee booking a total of nine players between both teams.
Rose were cruelly denied two chances at the end, with Rudi Bryce scuffing his footing to miss a tap in, and Laurie Devine agonisingly being denied a headed goal that appeared to be well onside as stoppage time dawned.
It finished one goal a-piece for either team as a feisty league-affair came to a close. Bonnyrigg face a quick turnaround, traveling the short trip to the top of Edinburgh to face Hearts U21s on Friday night at The Vanloq Stadium.
