Three home goals for the Rosey Posey were not enough to prevent a spirited Berwick comeback following a thoroughly entertaining affair in Lowland League action on Saturday.
Bonnyrigg started the game in ideal fashion, and soon enough their labours bore goals when Laurie Devine broke the deadlock just seven minutes in after nodding a header into the box past Campbell in the Berwick goal.
Soon enough, Rose were two ahead. Billy King was brought down inside of the area leaving the referee no choice but to give a penalty, allowing Neil Martyniuk to step up and smash straight down the middle, making it 2-0 fifteen minutes in.
Alassan Jones was having a good game in midfield for Rose, and he was unlucky to not add another goal or two before half time with shots going narrowly wide.
Berwick got a goal back thirty-four minutes in, when Mbewe stuck a leg out to beat Connelly in goal. Sneddon should have equalised for Berwick just before the half, however his shot was dragged inexplicably wide from a one-on-one.
The second half began with the same treacherous weather, but the same action to match it. After McCrone scuffed a huge chance for Berwick, the Rose were unlucky to not score again after Barfoot heroically cleared a goal bound shot off the line for the away side.
Berwick found themselves level after two quick fire goals mid way through the second half. Mbewe got his brace from a header into Connolly’s bottom corner sixty four minutes in, before McCrone curled a decent shot in after being allowed too much time six minutes later.
The Rose looked deflated after conceding the quick double, but their spirits didn’t break and Cammy Ross soon levelled the scores up in the seventy-second minute by curling a low shot into the bottom corner past Campbell.
Laurie Devine nearly scored a sensational bicycle kick just two minutes after following a poorly cleared corner, however his effort agonisingly hit the crossbar.
Berwick found themselves in front again in the eighty-second minute, when Mair was fouled inside of the box. After sending goalkeeping coach Graeme Smith off for dissent, the referee let Binnie step up and score.
Shortly after Hoskins fired a ranged effort onto the left side of the woodwork, the whistle blew for full time on a damp, and fairly dismal day for the Rosey Posey with the score finishing Bonnyrigg 3-4 Berwick Rangers.
The Rose host Broxburn Athletic in the Scottish Cup first round next Saturday as they we look to bounce back.
