Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic F.C. v Albion Rovers F.C.
Lowland League 2025-26
02/09/2025 7:45pm New Dundas Park
For the second game in three days at Ferguson Park we welcome Albion Rovers for our latest Lowland League fixture.
“The Rose” come into this match now in 4th place after an excellent win against Celtic B at Ferguson Park.
Bonnyrigg started very brightly and were awarded an early penalty after Cammie Ross was brought down by a high tackle by Gill in the visitor’s goal.
Neil Martyniuk slotted in from the spot to give Bonnyrigg an early lead.
In an excellent first half team performance Billy King ran through from a Cammie Ross pass to double the lead just on the half hour mark.
Captain Martyniuk added a third goal just before half time when he headed home after an error in the Celtic B area.
Celtic B started the second half well, but the match changed again when defender Sidwell was red carded for a last man pull on Cammie Ross.
“The Rose “added a fourth when the resultant Lee Currie free kick was deflected into the Celtic B net.
Cammie Ross added a fifth goal finding the corner of the net from the edge of the penalty box.
Celtic B grabbed a late consolation goal when a Keenan header looped into the net.
The second 5-1 victory in succession and Manager Jonny Stewart was delighted with the performance and was able to bring the two new signings into the squad.
Albion Rovers who are managed by Sandy Clark have faced a tough start to the season having to rebuild the squad that finished in 6th place last season.
Despite these changes the team from Coatbridge made a positive start to the season and are currently in 11th place just three points behind “The Rose “in this very tight League.
In their previous League outing at Bo`ness United Albion Rovers went down to a 5-2 defeat.
Albion Rovers were 3-0 down at half time but got a goal back early in the second half but went down to 10 men after Garth received his second yellow card.
Bo`ness added a further two goals before Albion Rovers got a second goal.
Matches between these sides have generally been very close and competitive with Bonnyrigg Rose winning the previous two games by a single goal.
The thoughts of Manager Jonny Stewart on this important match –
Welcome back to Ferguson Park for the second time in 3 days.
Saturday was a great performance and result.
I thought the boys were excellent right from the start and carried the game plan out to a tee.
We made Celtic defend, we were solid at the back, and we took our chances when they came along.
Celtic are always a good side, so I was very pleased to take all 3 points.
Albion Rovers will be a tricky game.
Sandy will have them organised and they are always a difficult opponent to play against.
We are on a decent wee run at the moment though and the boys should be confident.
I’d like to welcome Jay Mcgarva to the club and Dean Hoskins back to the club.
Both will provide much needed competition and cover for our defence.
Let’s hope there’s another big crowd under the lights and roar us on to another 3 points
