Airdrieonians v Bonnyrigg Rose
Albert Bartlett Stadium (ML6 8QZ)
Tuesday 15th July @ 7.45pm
A quick turnaround as we travel to the Excelsior (Albert Bartlett) Stadium to face Championship side Airdrie in our second Premier Sports Cup tie.
The sides come into this match after contrasting results last weekend.
At a sun-baked Ferguson Park "The Rose" were unlucky to go down to a 0-1 defeat to Alloa Athletic who took the lead after a Bonnyrigg error allowed Alloa to take an early lead.
Despite having more possession and playing a lot of excellent controlled football the Alloa defence coupled with several excellent Goalkeeper saves prevented "The Rose" from getting the equaliser and a point at least that their play deserved.
Airdrie under Manager Rhys McCabe travelled to Dens Park to face Premiership Dundee and came away with an excellent win to secure all three points to put them in a strong position already in Group C.
A goal midway through the first half was enough for The Diamonds and despite pressure from the home side were able withstand some late pressure from the home side.
Airdrie who survived in the Championship after a play-off have a strong squad that has both youth and experience and who will now provide a tough test for Bonnyrigg.
These sides met in this competition two seasons ago at NDP when a O’Conner penalty for the visitors midway through the second half was the difference in what was a tough competitive contest.
