Despite winning our final 3 League games we now play East Kilbride in the League 2 pyramid play off.
This is a two-legged tie with the first match being played at the Ross Commercial Finance Stadium this Saturday 10th May with the return being played at NDP on Saturday 17th May.
“The Rose” will come into these massive matches with the confidence gained with the performances and the results over the past few weeks with wins at both Forfar and Stranraer as well as the excellent victory at NDP against a strong Spartans side.
East Kilbride who won the Lowland League comfortably defeated Highland League champions Brora Rangers 7-4 on aggregate and have built a formidable squad under Manager Mick Kennedy and Assistant Si Ferry will provide a tough test for Bonnyrigg Rose over these two games.
These sides met earlier in the season in the second round of the Scottish Cup with East Kilbride coming out on top 3-1 after two late goals at the Ross Commercial Finance K Park Stadium.
Rose started strong, showing promise in the first 15 minutes, with Lee Currie testing the East Kilbride goalkeeper early on with a long-range effort.
East Kilbride, however, struck first when Reegan Mimnaugh’s shot took a deflection, giving the home side a lead in the 24th minute.
John Robertson had the only other clear-cut chance of the half but hit the side netting.
The second half saw a higher tempo, with Rose adjusting their shape as they fought to get back into the game. In the 51st minute, Mark Ferrie created a chance through a great piece of dribbling, though his shot went high and wide.
Cammy Ross gave Bonnyrigg a lifeline in the 61st minute, capitalizing on a defensive error to bring Rose level.
Mick Kennedy’s side won a penalty in the 82nd minute after a foul in the box, which Robertson converted, narrowly beating Paddy Martin.
In the dying minutes, Rose pushed forward, leaving space at the back chasing an equaliser.
East Kilbride capitalized on this with a breakaway goal from Steven Boyd, who slotted a one-on-one past the goalkeeper to end the cup tie.
