Bonnyrigg Rose travelled to K-Park to face Mick Kennedy’s East Kilbride in the second round of the Scottish Gas Men's Scottish Cup. Manager Calum Elliot made one change from last week’s victory at NDP, bringing in forward Mark Ferrie in place of Keiran McGachie.
Rose started strong, showing promise in the first 15 minutes, with Lee Currie testing the East Kilbride goalkeeper early on with a long-range effort. East Kilbride, however, struck first when Reegan Mimnaugh’s shot took a deflection, giving the home side a lead in the 24th minute. John Robertson had the only other clear-cut chance of the half but hit the side netting.
The second half saw a higher tempo, with Rose adjusting their shape as they fought to get back into the game. In the 51st minute, Mark Ferrie created a chance through a great piece of dribbling, though his shot went high and wide. Cammy Ross gave Bonnyrigg a lifeline in the 61st minute, capitalizing on a defensive error to bring Rose level. However, Kennedy’s side won a penalty in the 82nd minute after a foul in the box, which Robertson converted, narrowly beating Paddy Martin.
In the dying minutes, Rose pushed forward, leaving space at the back. East Kilbride capitalized on this with a breakaway goal from Steven Boyd, who slotted a one-on-one past the goalkeeper to end the cup tie.
Rose will now turn their focus to league action, facing Clyde F.C. away at the ZLX Stadium, with fans hopeful of continuing their recent league success.
