Bonnyrigg Rose travelled to Dunbar to kick off their EOS Cup campaign on Saturday 12th October 2024.
Calum Elliot made seven changes from last week’s game against East Fife, with the notable return of Rose Goal Keeper Paddy Martin from injury.
Rose started strong, taking an early lead in the 2nd minute as Keiran McGachie flicked on Kerr Young’s header from a Lewis Lormier corner.
Cammy Ross scored his first goal for Rose in spectacular fashion. After a brilliant solo run, he curled a shot into the top right corner, leaving the Dunbar goalkeeper with no chance.
Despite tough conditions in the first half, Bradley Barrett extended Rose’s lead in the 28th minute with a powerful low-driven shot that proved too much for Brennan.
Rose dominated the first half, creating several goal-scoring opportunities. However, the Seasiders fought back, with Dean Whitson pulling a goal back for Dunbar in the 34th minute with a 30-yard strike.
The second half saw fewer chances for Rose, with Mark Ferrie and Bradley Barrett having the best opportunities. Dunbar reduced the deficit further in the 75th minute when Liam Gregory chipped in from outside the box.
Bonnyrigg Rose held on to secure the win, advancing to the second round of the EOS Cup, where they will face Edinburgh City. The Rose faithful will take positives from today’s game, as the team created plenty of chances.
Bonnyrigg Rose will host Edinburgh City next Saturday at NDP.
