Jonny Stewart made one change to his starting eleven that faced Elgin City at home last weekend with Sean Murphy replacing Mark Ferrie.
Peterhead scored their first in the 20th minute as an Oliver Colloty strike found the back post.
Peterhead would shortly try again with a close-range shot from captain, Jason Brown, but this time the chance was swiftly dismissed by Andrew McNeil.
After several minutes of attacking play, Peterhead got their second goal of the day, Colloty firing in his second at the near-post.
Max Barry broke in behind as Peterhead continued their onslaught, flashing his chance across the face of goal and wide.
Rose threatened in the dying moments of the first-half, Ryan Porteous misfiring from inside the box.
With the second half under way, Colloty completed his hat-trick in the 47 th minute, the New Zealander latching onto a Seb Ross cross.
Barry was able to fashion a couple of shooting opportunities from just outside the Rose box, but neither could be placed on target.
Peterhead scored their fourth goal in the 62nd minute with Dylan Forrest finding the net from 25-yards out.
McNeil denied Jack Brown a place on the scoresheet with just over 10 to play with a big save in the bottom left corner.
Substitute Adam Carnwath secured Peterhead their fifth and final goal of the day in the final minute of play.
Jonny Stewart described the match as a “disappointing day at the office.” He said, “We got exactly what we deserved today. You cannot give away goals like we did and expect to pick up points. We knew it was going to be a tough game away to the league leaders, but we let ourselves and the fans who travelled down.”
“This is not what I expect from a Bonnyrigg Rose side and will do everything I possibly can to turn this around.”
“It is not over yet and we will keep fighting right to the end.”
Attention has now turned to next week’s home game against East Fife.
