Bonnyrigg Rose made the long journey up north to Balmoor Stadium to face Peterhead. Calum Elliot made four changes from last week’s defeat at Station Park, bringing Mikey Andrews in between the sticks, Bradley Barrett into the defence, Callum Connolly in midfield, Mark Ferrie, and Keiran McGachie leading the line.
The first half was competitive for both sides playing deep, with Peterhead having more of the ball. Rose had the best chance of the half through Cammy Ross, whose solo effort led to a long-range shot that worked Blessing Oluyemi in the Peterhead goal in the 21st minute. Angus Mailer would be shown his marching orders after he was shown red in the 26th minute. The Blue Toon created chances through Kieran Shanks, and just before halftime, Mikey Andrews made a important save from Dylan Forrest’s shot outside the box.
The second half saw Peterhead change the momentum of the game. Peter Pawlett gave them the lead in the 64th minute after causing commotion in the Rose box. Bonnyrigg Rose’s best chance of the half came through Mark Ferrie in the 55th minute, with his shot going just wide of Oluyemi’s goal. Peterhead extended their lead with a long-range volley that hit the bar, allowing Kieran Shanks to head in the rebound in the 71st, closing off a frustrating end to Bonnyrigg Rose’s calendar year.
Rose will look to bounce back on the 4th of January as they face Edinburgh City at Meadowbank.
