Bonnyrigg Rose welcomed Stranraer to New Dundas Park for their second home fixture in a row.
After a few fixtures on the road, Calum Elliot’s side were looking to take advantage of their home fixtures to lift themselves up the league table.
One change was made to the Rose team that defeated Clyde the week prior, as Ben Scarborough came in for Kieran Somerville.
New signing Riley Haston, signed from Haddington Athletic, also made the bench.
Stranraer almost got off to a flying start just 3 minutes in, but Lee Currie was on hand to make a goal-saving clearance to keep the game level.
Neil Martyniuk went close after beating Jacob Pazikas to a Currie corner, but it was Stranraer’s turn to make a goal line clearance to keep the scores at 0-0.
Rose wouldn’t pass up their next opportunity as Bradley Barrett held it in the box following an Angus Mailer throw and played it to Kerr Young who provided a striker’s finish from inside the box to give Rose the lead. He almost grabbed a brace moments later, headed narrowly wide of the post from a corner kick.
Rose would double their advantage just before the break as Callum Connolly continued his good form with a bullet header past Pazikas to have Rose flying at the break.
Despite the early chance on 3 minutes, Rose dominated the proceedings from then on, continuing into the second half as Connolly and Kallum Higginbotham fired a pair of strikes straight at the keeper.
It could’ve been more than 2, as Rose passed up 2 massive opportunities. Aaron Arnott dribbled into the box and fired it off the post, and Connolly couldn’t provide the finishing touch as the rebound was cleared off the line.
After some struggles on the road, Rose are beginning to find their footing this season in League Two, and they will return to action in 2 weeks as they make the long trip north to take on Elgin City.
