Bonnyrigg Rose made the trip to their East Lothian counterparts, Tranent, for their final pre-season friendly. Following a 6-1 win away to Broxburn Athletic, Rose looked to end their season preparations on a high before the competitive season begins on Saturday.
Rose started off fast with new signing Aaron Arnott delivering a corner that led to Bradley Barrett having the first chance of the game, which went wide of goalkeeper Keiran Beveridge's goal.
Former Rose full-back Dean Brett got Tranent's first chance on target of the match, which was easily claimed by Mikey Andrews.
Adam McGowan worked Andrews at his bottom left corner as Tranent continued their push for the opening goal.
The challenges were flying in as the first-half didn't reflect the 'friendly' tag, and McGowan continued to threaten down the left as he forced Andrews into another stop.
Owen Wardell was in good form down the left flank, and he would find Kallum Higginbotham at the back post who turned it home, only for the linesman's flag to deny Rose the lead, Higginbotham being deemed to be offside.
Wardell continued to find himself in good positions on the park, and he fired over from range after doing well to shift inside.
The second half started off slower than the first, with both sides failing to really get out of first gear to push on for a victory, which may be expected given the competitive season is very close on the horizon.
Tranent had the first chance of the half, with Adam McGowan calling Mikey Andrews into action, making a spectacular double save to keep the game tied in the 53rd minute.
Brad Rodden had come on at half-time and found himself in space at the back-post, but he could only roll it past the post after being picked out by Neil Martyniuk.
Rose continued to advance further up the field, and a Rodden shot from outside the box stung the palms of Beveridge.
Tranent’s Joe Viola worked his way into the box, but his shot landed on the top of Andrews' net, the final real chance of the evening.
The match ended in a stalemate as Rose looked ahead to the beginning of their competitive season, welcoming top-flight Dundee to New Dundas Park in the Premier Sports Cup for the second season in a row.
