Bonnyrigg Rose continued their early season preparations at Christie Gillies Park on Tuesday evening where they took on Civil Service Strollers.
Kevin Smith took charge for this game, and it was a completely changed lineup to the team that was victorious at Berwick Rangers on Saturday afternoon, with the emphasis in pre-season being to get as many minutes in the players' legs as possible ahead of the fast-approaching competitive season.
Chances were shared between the two sides in the early stages, with Kerr Young heading over from a corner kick and Mikey Andrews making a few early saves to keep the game level.
Civil may have thought they could have taken the lead when Tom Findlay connected with a close-range header, but he narrowly missed the bottom-right corner.
Rose will definitely have thought that they could have taken a lead into the break with a few big chances being passed up before the end of the opening 45. Smart Osadolor latched onto a slick through ball from Ben Scarborough, but he couldn't find the net after taking it round the keeper following a goal line clearance.
Scarborough also took the ball round the keeper shortly after, but the angle was just too tight to put Rose ahead.
Civil Service started the second-half positively, and they were rewarded with the lead, albeit with a touch of fortune, as Miguel Kamgna's header took a deflection off of Gwont Gwohpeter right in front of the keeper and trundled over the line.
Rose made eight changes on the hour mark as they looked to fashion a way back into the game, but despite holding a lot of the possession, they couldn't find that pivotal equaliser.
Rose's closest chances were courtesy of Osadolor who could only hit the side-netting with a powerful drive, and Dean Watson who dragged his effort agonisingly wide after some positive play down the right flank.
Rose couldn't find the leveller on the day, but they will be eager to get back to winning way in their next pre-season friendly at Broxburn Athletic on Saturday afternoon.
