Bonnyrigg Rose made the long trip north to face League One side Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Premier Sports Cup Group Stage.
This was the second repeat fixture from last season's group stage campaign, after welcoming Tony Docherty's Dundee to New Dundas Park once again last weekend.
After taking two points from one League One side already this week following the victory at Galabank mid-week, Rose may have fancied their chances heading to the Caledonian Stadium, but Duncan Ferguson had his side well prepared to come hot out of the blocks in the first-half.
The Caley Jags threatened in the early stages as Daniel Devine glanced his header wide from a set-piece situation.
They would go on to grab that early lead they were looking for through Adam Brooks, the 20-year-old finding the net following Ryan Strachan's cross.
Inverness would double their advantage less than 10 minutes later as the captain Billy McKay found Keith Bray in the box, who did well to shake off his marker and slotted it beneath Tom Ritchie.
Aberdeen loanee Ritchie was the penalty hero against Annan Athletic on Tuesday evening, and he produced a massive save to keep the score at 2-0 just after the half-hour mark, tipping a close-range Brooks effort onto the post.
Inverness's relentless first-half onslaught wasn't complete there, as Luis Longstaff fired in off the post to give his side a 3-goal advantage heading into the break.
With such a commanding lead at half-time, the home side took their foot off of the gas in the second, with chances being limited.
The only real chance came for Rose in the final few moments, as Brad Rodden dragged his effort wide of the mark.
This defeat rules out Rose's chances of challenging for a spot in the next round, and they will be completing their Premier Sports Cup Group Stage campaign next weekend against Arbroath at New Dundas Park.
