The Rose share points with The Blue Toon

Written by Gregor Bruce

Bonnyrigg Rose had drawn previously in the their last meeting up north against Peterhead.

Calum Elliot came into the game, after making a positive impression with his first game in charge last week with a 1-1 draw, a game The Rose largely controlled. Calum made changes in defence with Josh Grigor in place of Aaron Dunsmore.

To start the game the wind was in favour of The Rose, creating difficult playing conditions for Peterhead to defend. Bonnyrigg created a number of early chances through Bradley Barrett, as he fired over the bar, and then hit the side netting in the first 15minutes. Barrett would get his goal in the 23rd minute, with a great strike from outside the box, into the top left corner. Callum Connolly would nearly add to The Rose’s lead with his header cleared off the line. Peterhead were on the back foot in the first half but had chances coming through Hamish Ritchie and Peter Pawlett who were denied by Paddy Martin.

The second half would be the opposite of momentum due to the wind. Peterhead would level the game 10 minutes after the break with Hamish Ritchie heading a cross into the goal. The Rose would struggle to gain momentum with relentless pressure in tough conditions from Peterhead. Rory McAllister came close to giving Peterhead the lead just after, dragging his shot wide. Lee Currie would provide a magic goal for The Rose late into the second half, with a free kick from just outside of the penalty area, firing into the top left corner, leaving Stuart McKenzie no chance. Rory McAllister would spoil The Roses afternoon after scoring in the dying moments of the game, saving a point for the visitors.

The Rose faithful will look positively towards next weeks game away to East Fife, and look for an inspiring result as we enter the later stages of the season.
