We play our second pre season friendly on Tuesday evening, following Saturday’s victory against Pollok at Newlandsfield Park. Robbie Horn gave starts to new signings Paddy Martin, Reis Peggie and Dean Watson, all three impressing the travelling Rose faithful. It was a lively start as one of a few trialists named in Horn’s squad came close on two occasions, before Lee Currie clipped the post with a free kick. The aforementioned trialist made it third time lucky when he got on the end of a brilliant flick by Dean Watson to slot it under the on rushing Ben Fry in the Lok goal, to give Rose the lead after only 5 minutes. It was almost 2-0 after 14 minutes when the same trialist was fouled in the box. Neil Martyniuk stepped up but Fry made an excellent save to deny him.

Into the second half and Pollok began to grow into the game and were rewarded with a penalty of their own. Darren Christie made no mistake, sending Paddy Martin the wrong way to make it 1-1 after 50 minutes. The game became a bit scrappy and looked destined to finish level until another of Robbie Horn’s new signings, Angus Mailer came off the bench and got himself on the scoresheet with 5 minutes remaining. An impressive performance and a good test against a strong Pollok side.

Rose in action against Pollok at Newlandsfield Park

Onto Tuesday evening and a visit to NDP for cinch League One side Falkirk. The Bairns had a disappointing end to the last campaign, after finishing runners up to rivals Dunfermline Athletic, they suffered play off semi final heartache at the hands of Airdrieonians to consign them to another year in the 3rd tier.

John McGlynn’s side will be determined to go one better this time around and gain automatic promotion back to the Championship by winning the League One title. A number of players left the club upon the conclusion of the season, including our very own Paddy Martin. McGlynn, however has gone on to add a number of new signings to his squad to help achieve their promotion aspirations.

Like ourselves, Falkirk also began their pre season schedule with a 2-1 win on the road, against Civil Service Strollers on Saturday. Despite finding themselves 1-0 down at the break, a Jordan Allan brace in the second half ensured they left the Capital with the victory.

The Rose last came up against Falkirk a little over 12 months ago, having been drawn in the same group in the then Premier Sports Cup (now Viaplay Cup). The match finished 1-1 on that Wednesday evening in July 2022 with Callumn Morrison giving the Bairns an early lead before Lewis Turner’s spot kick brought us level just before the break. There was no further scoring and the match went to a penalty shoot out, which Falkirk won 4-2 to claim the bonus point.

It may only be a friendly this time around, however Robbie Horn and the players will be keen to build on Saturday with another positive performance and result ahead of the new campaign.

Kick off on Tuesday at NDP is 7:30pm and PATG entry is £10/£5/U12s free (with a paying adult). Supporters unable to attend need not miss out on any of the action, as we’ll be live streaming the match via Rose TV. You can purchase your stream now for £10 at the following link bonnyriggrosetv.co.uk

We look forward to welcoming you back to NDP. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with our Match Day Guide. It’s also worth noting that there are currently four way temporary traffic lights at Bonnyrigg Toll, causing lengthy delays in the area around the ground. With this in mind, you may wish to give yourself some extra time if planning on driving to the game.
