Our season starts this Saturday with a trip up the A9 to kick off our Viaplay Cup campaign in our opening group E fixture against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Last season’s Scottish Cup finalists began preparations for the forthcoming campaign with two friendly matches. A 4-1 win over Elgin City last Saturday was followed up with a 6-0 humbling of Nairn County on Tuesday evening. New signing Adam Brooks bagged a brace against Nairn, Rose will also have to be wary of forwards Austin Samuels and Billy McKay who were both on the scoresheet in both pre season matches.

As well as reaching the Scottish Cup Final last season, before eventually losing out to Celtic, Inverness also reached the last 16 of the Premier Sports Cup (now Viaplay Cup). Despite reasonable success in the cups, the Caley Jags ended their Championship league season in disappointment, narrowly missing out on a promotion play off place. A sixth place finish was the end result for Billy Dodds men, however due to how tightly competitive the league was, they were actually only 3 points worse off than runners up Ayr Utd.

Inverness topped their group in last seasons competition. A group which contained Livingston, Cove Rangers, Kelty Hearts and Albion Rovers. Rose meanwhile finished 4th in a tough group involving Hibernian, Falkirk, Greenock Morton and Clyde. The draw hasn’t been kind to us again this year as we’ve been paired with Inverness, Dundee, Airdrie and Dumbarton. It’ll be a tough ask to progress from a group containing a Premiership side, two Championship sides and of course Dumbarton who we know all too well how difficult they are to beat. As the old cliche goes though, anything can happen in the cup competitions and what better way to give us a chance of progressing than by springing a surprise up in the Highlands on Saturday.
