There’s no hiding from the first game of 2023 being one to forget for the Rosey Posey, with a heavy defeat at the hands of Albion Rovers dampening the New Year mood in Boomtown.

A chance to make amends for the Wee Rovers fixture awaits, however, as Rose host Stirling Albion at New Dundas Park on Saturday afternoon.

There has been movement in the transfer market for Rose, with manager Robbie Horn already dealing with the loan recall of one of his forwards and the arrival of a new striker to the squad.

Kieran Mitchell was recalled by parent club Raith Rovers on Wednesday afternoon. Mitch leaves Boomtown with two goals in 12 appearances and the best wishes from everybody at the club after always giving one hundred percent during his time in red and white.

With a space in attack vacant, Robbie Horn moved quickly to bring in Zander Murray from Gala Fairydean Rovers. With over 100 goals in just over three years for GFR, Murray was subject to substantial interest from various other clubs but has opted to make the switch to EH19.

Stirling’s visit to NDP in August ended in victory for the Rose after Neil Martyniuk slotted home a 12th minute penalty. However, the Binos did prevail in a controversially officiated return fixture at Forthbank in October, with a Dale Carrick brace nullifying Kevin Smith’s first-half strike.

Darren Young’s side are top-of-the-table Dumbarton’s closest challengers in 2nd place. After rounding out 2022 with two victories over Elgin City and Stenhousemuir, an opportunity to bridge the four-point gap to Dumbarton last weekend through a head-to-head clash between the two clubs was halted by a late postponement.

There’s no secret to who the danger man is for the visitors, with former Hearts centre-forward Carrick already beyond double digits in the goal scoring charts this season. Keeping the speedy striker quiet will be crucial to any success for the Rose this Saturday afternoon.

The 2008s will be raising funds at the game, hoping to gather support for their upcoming Easter time trip to Holland to take part in a football tournament. Any donations are welcome!

Kick-off is 3pm at New Dundas Park this Saturday. Tickets are £12 for Adults (17-65), £7 for Concessions (Disabled/Carer, 12-16 & O65s) and U12s with a paying adult go free. Season tickets are valid.
