It’s back-to-back home games in Bonnyrigg as Rose welcome Stirling Albion to New Dundas Park this Saturday for the first ever competitive meeting between the two clubs.
The Binos’ maiden visit to Boomtown is the perfect opportunity for Robbie Horn’s men to bounce back following last weekend’s 2-0 defeat to the previously winless Albion Rovers. The Rose fell to their first SPFL league defeat when a first-half own goal from the skipper and a late Charlie Reilly solo effort sealed all three points for the visitors from Coatbridge.
343 days. That’s how long the Rose had gone unbeaten at home in the league – a run that started when Rangers B trounced the eventual Lowland League title winners at NDP last September – until the Rovers came to town.
The loss leaves Bonnyrigg Rose in 3rd place in the cinch League Two table – five points behind unbeaten Dumbarton and two behind East Fife. Level on points with the Rosey Posey is this weekend’s opponents, Stirling Albion.
Following an impressive Premier Sports Cup group stage, in which they were unfortunate just to miss out on qualification to the last 16, The Binos come into this tie in solid league form. An opening day defeat to table-toppers Dumbarton was followed up by a tricky draw with Elgin City, before two straight wins over Stenhousemuir (3-0 at home) and Annan Athletic (2-1 at Galabank).
Despite the promising start to the league campaign, Albion were knocked out of the SPFL Trust on Wednesday evening. Highland League side Brechin City took the lead at Glebe Park, before former Hearts man Dale Carrick levelled up proceedings.
It became an evening to forget for Binos midfielder Jack Leitch, who missed a stoppage-time penalty to win the tie before then missing a shoot-out spot kick that would’ve won the tie once again. His second miss allowed Brechin to net from the next penalty and advance into the third round of the cup.
The side selected by manager Darren Young was rotated from the victory over Annan, with seven changes made, so Rose fans can expect a full-strength opposition squad to turn out on Saturday.
This fixture is pay at the gate only and season tickets are valid. The price of admission is £12 for adults (17-65) and £7 for concessions (disabled, carer, 12-16 and over 65s). Under 12s accompanied by an adult go free.
‘Mon the Rose!
