After cup progression and a free weekend, Bonnyrigg Rose are back in league action as they head to the Dumbarton Stadium to take on Rangers B on Tuesday night.
The Lowland League champions were bested in their last outing in the competition, as Dalbeattie Star prevailed with a 2-0 victory at Islecroft.
It would be only the Rose’s third league defeat of the season - the second of which came in the reverse fixture with this midweek’s opponents.
A crowd of 942 enjoyed the sunshine at New Dundas Park, but the majority of those watching would not have enjoyed the scoreline. Tony Weston, Cole McKinnon, Robbie Ure, Charlie McCann & Kane Ritchie-Hosler all scored for the dominant Colt side on the day, with Kieran Hall grabbing what was ultimately a consolation brace late on.
Robbie Horn’s men have been near imperious in the league from that moment on, going on an 18-game unbeaten run. Only one of those games ended in a draw, a 2-2 tie with Spartans at New Year, before defeat down at Dalbeattie last time out.
Under the stewardship of David McCallum, it’s been a strong debut season for Rangers B in the fifth tier. Currently occupying third position, the Glasgow side lie just three points off second placed East Kilbride with two games in hand over Kilby.
No team in the Lowland League has scored more goals this season than the young Gers. A key part of their goalscoring exploits has been stellar form of 18-year-old, Weston. The former Blackpool players has 21 goals in the league this season, a tally bettered only by Spartans’, Blair Henderson.
Weston scored in his side’s last outing too, a 3-0 derby win over Celtic at Ibrox. Also on the scoresheet was Alex Lowry, the tricky midfielder who has impressed when called up by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the Rangers first team.
Some Rose squad news was confirmed on Monday night as stalwart Johnny Brown’s departure to Dundonald Bluebell on a free transfer until the end of the season was announced.
Kick-off is at 7:45pm on Tuesday night at the Dumbarton Stadium. Tickets are prices at £7 for adults and £3 for concessions, and can be purchased by clicking here.
