There’s nothing quite like a big game under the lights. That’s exactly what’s on offer at New Dundas Park on Tuesday night as Bonnyrigg Rose look to seal their place in the Pyramid Play-Off against the visiting Cumbernauld Colts.
A win will guarentee Robbie Horn’s men a spot in the two-legged affair with the eventual winners of the Highland League, although the League Title would not yet be decided due to the current mathematic position of both Celtic and Rangers B.
The players will be well aware that there are no guarantees however, faced with the stern test of a Colts side that have won three of their last five league outings. The most recent victory came on Saturday, with Dylan Forrest’s header the difference between themselves & Berwick Rangers at Broadwood.
Rose also picked up a big three points at the weekend, overcoming Edinburgh University in the capital thanks to wing-back winners from Scott Gray & Bradley Barrett.
This will be the third time the sides have been slated to play this fixture this season. The first was called off late in the day, as a white Christmas suddenly extended into Boxing Day afternoon, despite the best efforts of the Rose elves to clear the pitch of snow. The aftermaths of recent storms derailed last week’s scheduled meeting, setting up this clash (provided there’s not a typhoon or something)
Speaking of wild weather, this clash last season was defined by it, as both Cameron Foy & Scott Gray picked up wind-assisted goals to leave the game level as the referee finally let everyone go inside.
The reverse fixture was a novelty for Bonnyrigg - they drew a blank. In fact, it is the only time over the course of 90 league outings (plus 2 EoS play-off ties) since Rose rejoined the senior set up that they have failed to register a goal.
One of the players looking to bolster that impressive statistic will be Sean Brown, who - now plying his trade in red and white - is Cumbernauld’s all-time top goalscorer since they joined the Lowland League in 2015, with 58 on his tally.
Kick-off is 7:45pm at New Dundas Park on Tuesday evening, with tickets priced at £7 for adults, £4 for concessions and U12s go free with a paying adult.
If you can’t make our big game, the match will be available to stream, courtesy of RB Broadcasting, with live match commentary for just £5.99.
