After many highs and the odd low, after home comforts and away days, round 36 of the Lowland League is finally upon us. The curtain is about to fall on Bonnyrigg Rose’s title-winning campaign.
The stage for the finale is K-Park, where Rose meet second placed East Kilbride.
EK will be more than keen to pick up points in their final league outing, with Celtic and Rangers B sniffing around in pursuit of the runners up berth.
The reverse fixture proved to be one of the highlights of a Bonnyrigg season full of them.
It was a tale of two penalties in the first half, as George Hunter and Neil McLaughlin had the score level at the interval. Keiran McGachie volleyed Rose into the lead in the second period, prompting relentless Kilby pressure.
Relief and adulation was apparent around New Dundas Park when a swift counterattack led to a Bradley Barrett clincher in the final minute to send the shed wild.
After a debut defeat, new manager Kevin Rutkiewicz has settled into life well in the EK hotseat. Particularly so in the last two games, in which his side has put a combined 10 goals past Bo’ness and Dalbeattie.
Meanwhile, Rose have been on the hunt for momentum ahead of the promotion play-off, which kick off next week with the visit of the Highland League champions to Midlothian.
Callum Connolly scored a late equaliser to ensure a glorious trophy day didn’t have a dark cloud hanging over the skipper as he held the Lowland League trophy aloft.
Robbie Horn says Saturday’s game is a chance for players to cement their place in the starting XI for the crucial fixtures to come, adding an extra layer of intrigue to already enticing match.
Kick off is at 3pm with tickets - £8 for adults and £5 for concessions - available via Fanbase.
'Mon the Rose!
