Bonnyrigg Rose head to Peffermill for the first time since October 2019, as their latest Lowland League fixture pits them away to Edinburgh University on Saturday afternoon.
Somehow, October 2019 was two and half years ago, but as can be expected with the close-knitted and continued Bonnyrigg squad, the vast majority of faces remain the same from those distant days. It was four Rose goals and four Rose goalscorers on the day, as Scott Gray, Lee Currie, Johnny Brown and Jamie Docherty were on target to give the visitors all three points.
Robbie Horn’s men outdid those lofty heights earlier this season when the students came to Boomtown, hitting Uni for seven on a blustery afternoon at New Dundas Park.
It was around about the time you couldn’t open Twitter without being immediately greeted with a goal GIF and “THE GRANTON GOOSE” exclaimed excitedly from the fingers of one of us media losers. Dean Hoskins was at the double, as well as solitary strikes from Callum Connolly, Kerr Young, Nathan Evans and both brothers Gray.
Uni are enjoying a campaign much improved on previous offerings, currently sat on 26 points after 30 games. It leaves Dorian Ugunro’s side 21 points ahead of bottom side Vale of Leithen, who acted as their relegation rivals in seasons priors.
It was a tough one to take last time out for the students, as an 86th minute goal from Lewis Duffy gave capital rivals Civil Service Strollers the late away victory.
After an uneventful first 45 themselves at the weekend, Rose took control in the second period against Bo’ness United on Saturday. Three penalties awarded, two scored by Neil Martyniuk to make it three league goals in two games, plus another one to add to Cal Connolly’s “Big goal” tally in his debut season for the Rosey Posey.
Kick-off is 3pm at East Peffermill on Saturday afternoon. Tickets are available to buy at the gate – priced at £6 for adults and £4 for concessions – or via the Fanbase app.
