Goals from Weston, McKinnon, Ure, McCann and Ritchie-Hosler ensured that the three points went back across the M8 along with Rangers B, leaving the majority of the 942 in attendance disappointed.
It was the away side who settled quickest into the game and after 10 minutes they were in front. A speculative effort from Weston from outside the box cannoned off a Rose defender past Andrews into the net, leaving the Rose stopper no chance to attempt a save. That initial strike seemed to spur on the youngsters and they managed to carve out several chances over the next ten minutes which just avoided Andrews' net for a second time, although on more than one occasion through his intervention. Gradually as the half progressed so did possession and territory for Rose, but it was the away side through some good work down the left flank by Weston and a subsequent strike by McKinnon who would score next on 36 minutes.
Hogarth in the Rangers' goal had to wait until 39 minutes for his first real test of the afternoon , when he did well to get across his goals to keep out a netbound free kick from Lee Currie. This marked a step change in the flow of the game for the remainder of the half, with Hogarth and his defense called into action on a number of occasions to keep the home side out.
The second half started in a similar vein to the way the first ended, with Rose on the attack for the first fifteen minutes after the interval. However the goal that in essence killed off the game came from young Gers forward McCann after an interception in midfield by Weston. Robbie Horn made his first substitutions of the day immediately afterwards, with Ross Gray & Connolly making way for Turner and Hall. Bad turned to worse on 77 minutes when Ure was left with the simplest of finishes for Rangers' fourth.
On 84 minutes the home fans had finally something to cheer about when substitute Hall did well to bring down a ball that was lofted over the Gers defense and slot underneath the onrushing Hogarth. Any thoughts of a miraculous comeback were short lived when three minutes later Rangers substitute Ritchie-Hosler capitalised on a defensive error for Rangers' fifth of the day. He won a penalty on 90 minutes after Turner had brought him down in the box, but McCann's spot kick was well saved by Andrews and Rose did manage to have the final say of the day through a second from Hall just before the final whistle.
It was a chastening afternoon for the Rose players and supporters alike, but all can take some solace from the fact that the standard of opposition faced is more the exception rather than rule at our level of football. Robbie Horn and his management team will ensure that the sole focus of his charges will be Saturday's important Scottish Cup fixture vs Forres Mechanics at Mosset Park, rather than dwelling on this defeat for too long.
