Bonnyrigg Rose welcome Lowland League newcomers Rangers B to New Dundas Park for the first time on Saturday afternoon.
The Rose head into this top-of-the-table clash in excellent form, with last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Berwick Rangers extending the team’s unbeaten league run to an extraordinary eight games.
The visitors started the strongest but it was Ross Gray who settled the nerves for the fantastic Rose support by opening the scoring just past the half-hour mark. Callum Connolly slotted past Andy McNeil to double Bonnyrigg’s lead in the second half, before Kerr Young (who, as you may know by now, only scores screamers) hit home a sweet volley to round out the tough tie.
Eight consecutive league victories is a grand achievement but, as always, there will be no complacency moving forward - especially with our upcoming opponents in fine form of their own.
The Colts started August with a narrow win over East Kilbride and an SPFL Trust Trophy triumph over League One side (and landlords) Dumbarton, before carrying on this winning streak by picking up four more wins - as well as 26 goals - in thrashings of both Edinburgh and Stirling Uni, Gretna 2008 and Vale of Leithen.
The Gers currently occupy second-place, with 24 points taken from a possible 27 so far, and are likely to give the Rose their toughest game st NDP yet. David McCallum’s men should be in great spirits, though potentially hampered by a two-week delay in competitive fixtures due to the international break.
The strong squad is a who’s who of elite youth talent. With the most goals scored in the Lowland League, there is no surprise that forwards Christopher McKee, Tony Weston and Ross McCausland - who have 13 league goals between them - are all ones to watch.
Two new signings will also be worth keeping an eye out for. Charlie McCann, a midfielder snapped up from Manchester United appears to be the real deal; while Juan Alegria, a forward brought in from Finnish side Honka, made an instant impact after netting twice on his debut versus Vale of Leithen.
With all that in mind, NDP is sure to host another great game this Saturday at 3pm. Season tickets are valid and pay-at-the-gate will again be in operation. Price of admission is £7 for adults and £4 for all concessions. Additionally, under-12’s with an adult will receive free entry.
