Bonnyrigg Rose host the University of Stirling on Saturday at New Dundas Park, as the Lowland League leaders look to make it seven wins on the bounce.
This is the first in a string of five home league fixtures for the Rose and they come into it following two massive results on the road.
Their travels started during the midweek, last week as a depleted select saw off East Stirlingshire. Keiran McGachie’s header ensured the first three of a huge six-pointer week were in the bag.
Another nervy encounter followed as Robbie Horn’s men took on former Rose manager Max Christie’s Bo’ness United. The versatile summer signing Callum Connolly, who was deployed at centre-back, broke the deadlock before Lewis Turner’s stunning strike stole the show and protected the visitors’ lead, despite a late consolation goal for the BU’s.
Rose have certainly found their rhythm in recent weeks and with a return to weekend fixtures only in the league, a more consistent routine can follow.
Saturday’s opponents have yet to find such stability. They visit New Dundas Park on the back of a 5-0 hammering at the hands of Rangers B and a home defeat to Berwick Rangers. The Students currently sit 14th in the table and have only recorded two wins this season – an opening day victory against Gretna 2008 and an impressive 6-1 mauling over Cumbernauld Colts.
As ever though, caution must remain high. Naturally, the Students lost a lot of their squad over the summer and are experiencing a turn-over, but they still train full-time and their fitness levels are always extremely high.
The only meeting between the two last season came at Forthbank, where Rose returned to Midlothian with just a point. George Hunter’s first half finish cancelled out an early Uni goal, despite the visitors’ domination.
In what is sure to be an exciting game, make sure you don’t miss a second of the action and head along to NDP for the 3pm kick-off against University of Stirling. Season tickets are valid and pay-at-the-gate will also be in operation, with tickets priced at £7 for adults and £4 for concessions.
