It’s back to league duty for Bonnyrigg Rose on Saturday afternoon, as they welcome Edinburgh University to New Dundas Park.
Robbie Horn’s side have recovered well from a shaky start to the season, winning their last three Lowland League fixtures, including their first away win of the campaign over Caledonian Braves at Alliance Park last weekend.
The Rose put on a stellar performance in the SPFL Trust Trophy against full-time opposition on Tuesday evening, pushing League One contenders Queen’s Park to penalties at Firhill.
Dean Hoskins grabbed our first ever goal in the competition with a powerful back-post header, not entirely dissimilar to the one that won the Rose all three points over Braves just three days earlier, making it two in two for the defender.
Coincidentally, The Granton Goose was the star man the last time Rose took on the students from the capital, in a 3-0 home win for Bonnyrigg. Hoskins played a key role in setting up the first two goals of the game, before knocking in a header of his own for what was his first goal in his second spell at the club.
Uni look to be an improved outfit on previous campaigns however, and have so far picked up impressive league draws with Broomhill and Gala Fairydean Rovers. Manager Dorian Ogunro will be pleased with new addition Ben Spelman upfront, who has bagged three goals so far this season.
Rose have also recruited in the forward area, as new signing Nathan Evans made his first appearance for the club since joining from Musselburgh Athletic against the Spiders on Tuesday, scoring a penalty in the shootout, and will be hoping to get his first league minutes this weekend.
Kick-off is 3pm at New Dundas Park on Saturday afternoon. Season tickets are valid, while pay-at-the-gate admission is available at £7 for adults and £4 for concessions. U12s go free.
