Goals from Hunter, Docherty and Turner ensured that Robbie Horn's side returned to Midlothian with another pre season win under their belt ahead of the new season.
Carmuirs Park was a sea of sunshine as the Rose faced the Mariners in their second closed doors friendly; the only fans watching were the usual couple in their DIY gantry which has to be one of the best vantage points in Scottish football. It was the Mariners who attacked first with a couple of long range efforts from the lively Alan Docherty but it was the away side who went ahead after ten minutes. A delightful diagonal ball by Mair was controlled well by HUNTER, who calmly slotted the ball past the onrushing Shaw in the Camelon goal. On the half hour a good cross from the right from McRoary for the hosts only needed a touch from Docherty for the equaliser, but he failed to make a connection. Six minutes later Rose had a great chance to double the lead, as McMullan was adjudged to have fouled Docherty in the box and referee Strang had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot, much to the bemusement of the home side. Docherty dusted himself off to take the penalty but Shaw did well to keep it out, diving to his left and averting the ball away from the danger zone. There was no change to the scoreline before the interval.
The Rose made the first of five changes on fifty one minutes as Nicky Weir made way for Ross Gray and two minutes later they had doubled their lead. Another ball from the left, this time from Martyniuk, was played into the path of DOCHERTY who showed good strength to fend of the attention of the Camelon defense to score. Four more substitutions followed with appearances for Brown, Turner, Smith and Neave in place of Brett, Martyniuk, Hunter and Scott Gray. There were shouts for a penalty from the home side on sixty four minutes as Scott Gray made a challenge on the Camelon attacker but these were waved away. Docherty had a good chance to extend the lead ten minutes later when rounding Shaw but couldn't keep his shot down as he was directed away from the Camelon goals. It was seventy nine minutes before Andrews was called into action, making a smart save from Alan Docherty before one minute later Bonnyrigg completed the scoring. A good team goal involving Neave, Docherty, Smith and TURNER who also provided the finish.
It was another valuable run out for both sides played in unusually warm conditions for this time of the year. Best for Camelon were A Docherty, Kane and McRoary, with manager Herd unlikely to be too disappointed with his side's showing with what we would determine at least to be short of a few regular starters.
Speaking after the game Robbie Horn said: "It was a really good workout again and thanks to Camelon for hosting us. I thought we started well and then fell out of the game for a spell. Second half we were good; we changed our shape too and the subs made a good impact for the second game running. We scored good goals, kept a clean sheet and it was great to see Nicky again and also Robbie getting a run out. A good day all round."
