Rose left it late but better late than never as a solitary goal towards full time from Grady ensured Bonnyrigg continue their winning ways.
It was the first meeting in the Super League between the two sides and it started on a sad note with a minutes’ silence impeecably observed by all who attended, due to the sad passing away of Darren King, 17 year old brother of current player Alex King who battled all of his short life with muscular dystrophy.
With the game played on a very heavy pitch chances at both ends in the first half were at a premium. Bonnyrigg’s best chance of the first half came from a free kick taken my White inside his own half into the box, which was headed clear by the Armadale defence under pressure from Grady into the path of Roseburgh, who kept his volley down well to hit the target both unfortunately for the New Dundas Park men it went straight at the keeper.
Bonnyrigg started brighter in the second half, with Currie fouled just outside the box on fifty minutes. Roseburgh took the free kick which fizzed narrowly over the bar. Two minutes later a long free kick from Roseburgh into the box was headed clear as far as Mason, who put a cross in from his left side and was narrowly missed by the advancing McKenna. The clearance fell to Currie but his shot flew over the bar.
Grady who was playing through the middle switched out to the right and was finding a lot of joy down that side. A cross in from Sean on 56 minutes was met with a diving header from Currie, but didn’t connect properly with hit and the ball trundled into the grateful arms of the Armadale keeper.
Four minutes later a cross into the box from Grady was controlled by Manson, who rolled it back to the onrushing McDonald but his low drive was pushed wide of the keepers’ left post.
Max made an attacking change on sixty nine minutes with McGachie coming on for a frustrated Manson, and it almost paid immediate dividends when another low inviting cross from Grady into the box narrowly evaded the big striker when all it needed was any sort of touch to score.
With Armadale defending resolutely and playing for time it looked like it was going to be “one of those days” for the Rose where they would never score despite all of the pressure they had. Those fears were ended however on eighty six minutes when from an inswinging Currie corner Grady rose highest and powered his header from just inside the small rectangle past the helpless keeper to cheers from the large Bonnyrigg contingent.
