A double from Sean Grady and loan signing Kieran McGachie’s first goal for the Rose meant that new player manager Tam Courts is still waiting for his first win as Kelty manager since taking over from Willie Newbigging at Kelty.
The Rose started the game defending The Dundas St end aided by a significant breeze. Stephen Manson was determind to continue where he left off at a friendly against Penicuik when on nine minutes he latched on to a mistake from Duffin just inside the Kelty half, driving towards goal but his shot was well stopped by Fleming. Three minutes later McGachie played a lovel inside out pass to Manson who from the touchline made a beeline for the penalty box and it took an excellent one handed save low to Fleming’s left to stop Bonnyrigg from opening their account.
They did just that five minutes later however when a speculative ball from the halfway line from Manson in midfield was taken with the breeze and keeper and defense both showed hesitation, which allowed Sean Grady to get the faintest of touches past the advancing keeper and see the ball roll into the net.
Kelty’s best chance of the first half came just after the half hour mark when Horne was robbed of the ball just inside his own half, allowing Cargill to drive down his left hand side and whose cross was met by Bathgate and flashed narrowly wide of Hay’s left post.
Manson again posed further problems from a Hay kickout which again was taken by the breeze but his cross over Fleming’s head was put over the Kelty crossbar by their own defender, narrowly evading the advancing Grady. Sean did manage to double his tally for the day and that scoreline just about reflected fairly the first half.
That goal just before half time appearing to kill off the game and the majority of the second half was played in midfield. The game did spring to life however on seventy minutes when a wonderful twenty five yard free kick from the impressive Roseburgh was heading for Fleming’s top right hand corner only for him to match a brilliant save to knock it off the crossbar. Unfortunately for Kelty the ball went straight up in the air and Kieran McGachie was brave enough to power through and head home his first goal for the club.
Max then took the opportunity to make a couple of changes to personnel with Manson & Grady making way for McKenna & Renton.
The Rose were however made to endure a nervy final ten minutes when Kelty took advantage of the breeze, with Stuart Cargill nipping in between defense and keeper after a long kick out from Fleming.
Two minutes later it could have been two when an inoccuous looking cross was made to look a lot better as Hay lost his footing and could only knock the ball into the path of Fraser who ballooned his shot over the bar. Kelty did have one more chance from a free kick but was headed over by Campbell.
All in all it was a good day at the office for Bonnyrigg who will hope to build on this victory with the visit of Musselburgh Athletic to New Dundas Park next Saturday.
