Scottish Cup 4th round - Bonnyrigg Rose v Hibernian

Scottish Cup 4th round - Bonnyrigg Rose v Hibernian

Brendan Parkinson15 Dec 2016 - 10:14

Club statement on current status.

The interest that we’ve had in the club since last Tuesday night’s victory at Dumbarton has been unprecedented for maybe a generation, going back to the days when we lifted the Scottish Junior Cup back in 66 and 78. To be in a position where we now face the current Scottish Cup holders in the fourth round has surpassed any sort of even the most optimistic expectation and that is testament to the group of players and management team that the club have been fortunate enough to assemble.

The amount of requests we have had already for tickets and updates on where we are on progress have been numerous, such is the demand. We form part of a SFA accredited legacy quality mark community club, with a sizeable youths section ranging in ages from 5-21, both boys and girls and they were in touch early on Wednesday morning as an example to try and book blocks of hundreds of tickets for their kids and parents. Unsurprisingly we’ve had those that normally follow us both home and away, plus those that have maybe moved further afield to pastures new wanting to get in touch and join us in celebration of a historic occasion for our club. As a club with its focus and ties that is synonymous with the community, run by a group of volunteers as a pastime we want to make this an occasion for all of the community and their families to enjoy and remember for years to come.
We’ve also had the backing from junior clubs around the country and there have been messages of support from literally very one of them. We are aware that some were in attendance from other clubs last Tuesday night at the Rock and imagine we will have a few wanting to attend the game on the 21st, wherever the venue is.

Due to our historic victory in the Scottish Cup 3rd round we have been thrust temporarily into the media limelight which is a place we are unaccustomed to. Where our players have come from and even the teams our committee used to support before joining became an irrelevance once we all stepped into the entrance at New Dundas Park. The key point to stress is that all of the players, management and those behind the scenes are 100% committed to the success of Bonnyrigg Rose both on and off the pitch. It isn’t unusual as a team based not too far from Edinburgh with players coming predominantly from the Edinburgh & Lothians region to support an Edinburgh team, however this tends to run in cycles. We appear to have had good wishes passed on from an ex player in Sean Connery wishing us all the best but there seems to have been a glaring omission in the press that Pat Stanton (who was a guest of honour at the 50th anniversary of our first ever Scottish Junior cup victory earlier this year) started his playing career with Bonnyrigg Rose. We also have a lot of supporters who would profess who having Hibs as their "big team" and no doubt the draw has created moral dilemmas for some as to which side they will support - either way we hope all of the supporters that do attend enjoy their day.

It has been well documented in the media the process we now need to follow and we are still currently working our way through that process. We would ask our supporters to bear with us and once we have any further information to disclose we will do so through our normal channels.
