Bonnyrigg Rose are delighted to confirm the signing of 22 year old midfielder, Jason Jarvis.
Rose fans may be familiar with JJ following his four year spell at University of Stirling, where he came up against us on a number of occasions. Having started his career in the Falkirk youth system, making one senior appearance for the first team, Jason began studying at Stirling University in 2019. It was there that he’d go onto to have four successful years playing for their senior football team, competing in the Scottish Lowland Lowland, as well as the BUCS Premier North League.
Speaking of the BUCS Premier North League, JJ was part of the historic Stirling Uni side that won the title in 3 consecutive seasons, the 3rd coming at the beginning of this year. As well as the BUCS success, he also played a huge part in a highly memorable season for Chris Geddes side as they also won the Queens Park Shield and East of Scotland Qualifying Cup. In addition, they also became the first Uni side in over 50 years to reach the last 32 of the Scottish Cup. A very respectable 4th place finish in the Lowland League was also achieved, despite the number of games played throughout the season in the various competitions.
As well as contributing to his team’s successes, on a personal level it was a memorable season for JJ. The midfielder notched up 20 goals, 17 assists and was selected as the Captains Player of the Year for 22/23, before graduating and ending his four year stay at the Uni.
Upon signing for the Rose, JJ had this to say - “It’s a pleasure to sign for such an honourable club which has a strong support and loyal fan base. As a young and ambitious player, I am eager to contribute and help the club achieve great success this season. Overall, I am very excited to get started and looking forward to our fixtures in the Viaplay Cup starting on Saturday.”
After landing his latest summer signing, the gaffer Robbie Horn spoke of his delight - “JJ is a player we’ve followed for a while and you always know that you have to wait for the Uni boys to graduate to have a chance of getting of them.
JJ has always performed well against us in the past and we were keen to get him in pre season having not seen him play much last season. He had options elsewhere but was keen to come in to prove his worth and play at the highest level he could. From the very first training session he showed his quality and he backed it up by showing fitness levels are very good too.
My mind was made up after the Pollok game really and we spoke after the Falkirk game. I was delighted to agree a deal before the game on Saturday. He’s a fantastic addition to the squad, he can create and score goals and I’m sure he’s impressed the supporters already as a trialist and I’m convinced there’s more to come.”
JJ goes straight into the squad to face Inverness in our opening Viaplay Cup Group E fixture this Saturday. Kick off at the Caledonian Stadium is 3pm and PATG entry is £15 for adults, £10 for concessions (O65s, disabled & carers), £5 for U16s.
Welcome to the Rose, JJ!
