Following the news received this morning that there are players within the squad who have returned positive LFT tests, we requested that tonight's match vs East Stirlingshire be postponed. After discussions back and forth which have taken part thrroughout most of the day the board's view is that with the evidence presented the game should proceed as planned.
Despite having a large squad a number of players are already unavilable due to injury, which is always likely to be the case after a long lay off and the number of games stacked at the beginning of the season. Like every other club in the same boat we have just got on with playing with the squad we have available, which has meant call ups to the first team from our development squad. Our concern was/is based around the number in quick succession of cases we have and the possibility of more to follow. We are comfortable at all of the protocols we have in place at the club haven't been breached but there is always the likelihood when part time players are only with us for a few hours a week to contract the virus elsewhere, particularly given the number of daily cases at present.
We are of course disappointed with the decison having spent the day pleading our case based on our risk assessment on player welfare, especially given the postponement of a fixture earlier this season to allow more fans in at a later date due to restrictions in place at the time, but we will fulfill the fixture as planned tonight. East Stirlingshire have already been informed of our case, would have been supportive if the game was postponed based on the grounds mentioned above and the ultimate decision for the game to proceed as normal.
We would also like to pass on our best to our players affected first and foremost and hope for a speedy recovery.
