Bonnyrigg Rose are delighted to confirm that 17 year old midfielder Cameron Forbes of our development squad has been promoted to the first team ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Followers of our development squad will be familiar with Cammy and will have seen first hand some of his eye catching performances in the development league.

Upon signing his professional contract, Cammy had this to say - “I’m really happy to sign and to be given the chance to train with the first team and be involved in the match day squads”

We caught up with the gaffer Robbie Horn who has big hopes for the highly rated young midfielder - “Cammy did really well for the 20s last season and there had been a bit interest from a full time club towards the end of last season.

We didn’t want to stand in his way but things didn’t materialise and we brought him in pre season with a view to giving him a professional contract.

He’s been absolutely outstanding. He’s just turned 17 and he’s hasn’t looked out of place at training or in games at all. I believe he’s got a real chance of being a first team regular in the near future.

There’s a crop of players in the 20s around the same age that have all got a chance and have already trained with the first team. Hopefully seeing Cammy earning a pro contract will encourage them to kick on too because as a club we need to start bringing some young players through, though at our level it is not easy to do.”
